Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Madam,

I am writing this regarding the space of parking lot which is behind my apartment, it is oftenly filled with numbers of car and I can not be able to get empty spot for my car parking after work.

Starting with, I saw a lot of parked car for around 6 to 7 hours and i have to parked it in the allocated visitor area which is area 1 kilometers far from my house. Those who are parking it in lot are almost visitors and they are using this instead of the their allocated area.

Moving further, it is bothering me everyday because of the carry items that I always have in my hand after my working hours, but just because the lot is full I need to carry all those to my home. Even when I need to leave early for work during winter it is very frustrating for me, as it is very hard to walk all the way in snow.

Lastly, please take some actions by placing some signs over there by stating no parking for visitors. Moreover, introduce some lock options where only it can be opened by the owners who are living there. I would be really helpful for the community, if you take a look into this matter.

Hoping for the best response from your side.

Your Faithfully,

Shreya Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the parking situation, explaining why it is a problem, and suggesting solutions. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the inconvenience of carrying items. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is distinct and fully explored without unnecessary repetition. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left in no doubt about the situation and the requested actions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Starting with', 'Moving further', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or unnatural. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing; for example, the phrase 'it is oftenly filled' lacks a clear antecedent for 'it' until the reader processes the context. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall readability and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'oftenly' (should be 'often'), 'numbers of car' (should be 'a number of cars'), and '1 kilometers far' (should be 'one kilometer away'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and the correct usage of adverbs and quantifiers.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I can not be able to' (redundant), 'i have to parked it' (incorrect verb form), and 'the their allocated area' (incorrect pronoun usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in subject-verb agreement. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. Increasing your control over verb tenses and sentence construction will help you achieve a higher score.
