Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. wilson,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the parking problem at the back of my apartment where i am living.
The designated parking area for my apartment tenants is already limited. There is one parking slot per unit in the building, but i think some people has two or more cars or may be their relatives parked cars in this area.Due to which, acatual residents of this building do not get empty spot.
I come home in the midnight after my work and until that time all parking slots get busy. Sometimes i have to wait for half an hour for the empty spot. I feel tired and upset due to this problem
please try to solve this problem at the earliest convenience by providing more spots to our apartment residents or by exposing fine or penalty to extra parked vehicles so that these drivers never missuse the other persons parking slot?
Your sincerely,
Sukhwinder kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that you come home at midnight, you could have elaborated more on the specific impact this has on your daily routine or stress levels. The suggestion for a solution is clear, but could be more detailed to show a better grasp of the task requirements. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the basic requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'due to which' and 'sometimes', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Due to which, acatual residents...'. Paragraphing is used, but the connection between the ideas could be smoother. The use of referencing (e.g., 'this problem') is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'designated parking area', 'tenants', and 'penalty'. However, there are some spelling errors ('acuatal', 'missuse') and minor word choice issues ('exposing fine' instead of 'imposing a fine'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('some people has', 'cars parked') and punctuation errors (missing capital letters for 'i' and 'wilson'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding of your message. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for basic errors like capitalization and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
