Student answer (Band 6.0)
Mr. Patel,
I am writing this letter regarding the inconvenience I am facing during the night after my work. As we know there is limited space for the parking. People should prioritize the need of others.
To commence with, I am working in well known company which offer night shifts every week. Due to that I reached home around 1 am midnight. Whenever I come home there is disorganized car parking I have deal with.
On the other hand, I have told a person who lives there and do not have manners to park and even do not support the others. Car always in wrong manner and due to that many members of the house suffer. One day I had to park my car outside the home and I got ticket from government.
I would like to give you suggestions such as, kindly talk with that person about the rule and regulation. Moreover, expand the space for at least 6 car and draw a line for each car.
I hope you look forward to my concern.
Yours Faithfully,
RHP

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You described the parking situation clearly by mentioning your late return from work at 1:00 am and the lack of space. You explained why it bothers you by highlighting the disorganized parking, how it affects other residents, and citing a specific consequence where you received a government parking ticket. Finally, you suggested practical solutions to the landlord, including talking to the offending resident and expanding the parking lot to accommodate at least six cars with marked lines. The tone is semi-formal and appropriate for a letter to a landlord. Although some ideas could be slightly more expanded, all requirements of the task are met, corresponding to a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear overall progression and logical organisation. You utilized standard opening and closing conventions such as 'Dear Mr. Patel,' and 'Yours Faithfully, RHP'. Cohesive devices and transitional phrases like 'To commence with,' and 'On the other hand,' are employed to structure the response, though 'On the other hand' is used somewhat inappropriately here since the preceding point does not offer a direct contrast. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as the introduction, the description of the problem, the personal impact, and the suggestions. Referencing is generally clear, though minor mechanical usage of cohesive markers prevents a higher band, placing this criterion at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common lexical items such as 'inconvenience,' 'disorganized,' and 'prioritize.' However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'limited space for the parking' instead of 'limited parking space,' 'reached home around 1 am midnight' (redundancy), and 'Car always in wrong manner' (missing subject and verb). Spelling and word formation are generally acceptable, but inaccuracies in phrasing constrain the score. The lexical range is sufficient to communicate your message clearly, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. You successfully use subordinate clauses, such as 'Whenever I come home there is disorganized car parking I have deal with' and 'One day I had to park my car outside the home and I got ticket from government.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('got ticket'), missing prepositions ('deal with' instead of 'deal with'), subject-verb agreement issues ('People should prioritize... do not have manners... always in wrong manner'), and tense inconsistencies. These errors occasionally distract the reader but do not impede overall communication, supporting a Band 5.5 score.
