Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Landlord,
I hope you are doing well.
I wanted to draw your attention towards the difficult situation which i am facing during the night. I come late every night from work and cannot find a parking spot for my car, due to which i have to park my car on the street which is not safe because of theaft happening happened last week. The fear of my car will geet stolen in night really bothers me and as a result i am not able to sleep at night.
I completely understand that the apartment is small with not enough space for parking for each tenat, however, i did noticed that there is disabled parking spot. The disabled tenant who used to park his car in that spot has left the apartment last morning, due to that reason i was thinking and wanted to request if you can make that available parking spot to the regular one so that we have one parking spot and i will be able to park there.
I will be really greatful to you if you can consider my request. Looking forward t hear back from you.
Yours faithfully,
Bhavana Mehra

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully covered all bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter begins by clearly describing the situation regarding the lack of parking spaces and the safety concerns caused by parking on the street. Next, it explains why this bothers the writer, specifically mentioning the fear of theft and sleep deprivation. Finally, a practical solution is suggested: converting a recently vacated disabled parking spot into a regular one. The tone of the letter is consistently polite and appropriate for corresponding with a landlord. All parts of the prompt are fully developed and addressed without any major omissions, meeting the criteria for a solid Band 7.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The writer uses standard paragraphing appropriately, separating the greeting, the description of the problem, the proposed solution, and the sign-off into distinct, readable sections. Cohesive devices such as 'due to which', 'however', and 'as a result' are employed to link ideas, although referencing and connective structures occasionally feel a bit mechanical, which is characteristic of Band 6 or 7 writing. Overall, the message flows smoothly from the statement of the problem to the final request without disrupting the reader's comprehension.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'draw your attention towards' and 'disabled parking spot'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies, such as writing 'theaft happening happened' instead of 'thefts that happened' and 'geet' instead of 'get'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, like 'greatful' instead of 'grateful'. These minor errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, placing it comfortably in the Band 6.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating multi-clause sentences such as 'I come late every night from work and cannot find a parking spot for my car, due to which i have to park...'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including lowercase 'i' pronouns, run-on sentences, and tense or structural slips like 'did noticed' and 'Looking forward t hear'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear and communication is not impeded. The control over grammar represents a typical Band 6 performance where complex structures are attempted with mixed accuracy.
