Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hi sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the problem i am facing due to parking issue. My name is Harsh and I am living as a tenant in your house which is located in Kot Mangal Singh,Street number 8 and house no. 10729. When i signed the lease, i was informed that i will get space in parking lot easily for my car but whenever i am coming back from my work, it is always occupied.
I recently got a new car and its insaurace will not cover any damage during street parking and thats the main reason i asked for parking space while signing the lease agreement. There are so many recent burglaries and theft cases in our area. In parking lot there are camers and that area is under supervision of security guard as well.
That would be very helpful if you can manage to reserve a parking lot for me or else i have to move out from this house. Please let me know before the begining of next month , so i can start looking for new accomodation.
Your's faithfully
Harsh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. First, the situation is clearly described in the opening paragraph where the writer explains the difficulty of finding an empty parking space upon returning home from work. Second, the explanation of why it bothers the landlord is provided through the mention of insurance limitations and local security concerns such as burglaries and thefts. Third, a concrete suggestion is offered, asking the landlord to reserve a parking lot. The tone is mostly appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord, though there is a slight shift in register with the ultimatum provided at the end. All parts of the prompt are well-addressed, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a clear overall progression of ideas, moving logically from the identification of the problem to the justification and finally to the proposed solution. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct topics, though the second paragraph is somewhat dense and could be broken down further. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'When i signed', 'I recently got', and 'That would be very helpful', but transitions between sentences occasionally feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though capitalization and punctuation conventions in linking sentences occasionally falter. Overall, the organization meets the requirements for a coherent letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms related to housing and daily life such as 'tenant', 'lease agreement', 'insurance', and 'burglaries'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and lexical errors, including 'insaurace' instead of insurance, 'camers' instead of cameras, 'begining' instead of beginning, and 'accomodation' instead of accommodation. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a limited control over less common vocabulary and spelling conventions, capping the lexical score at a solid 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over conditional and relative clauses, such as 'When i signed the lease, i was informed that...' and 'If you can manage to reserve...'. However, there are frequent punctuation and grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text. These include lowercase 'i' used as a personal pronoun multiple times, missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'or else i have to move out from this house'. Despite these errors, meaning is rarely impeded, and the majority of sentences are understandable, supporting a band 6.0 performance.
