Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student covers all parts of the prompt satisfactorily. The letter successfully describes the situation regarding the occupied parking spot, explains why this is bothersome due to wasted time, money, and the distant paid lot, and provides clear suggestions for the landlord, including security cameras and fines. However, the development of some points is slightly repetitive, and the tone fluctuates between formal and informal. Nevertheless, the purpose of the letter is clear, and all bullet points are addressed, corresponding well to the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs that generally follow the expected structure of a formal complaint letter. Cohesive devices such as 'As per the policy', 'As a result', and 'Moreover' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, though some pronouns lack precision. Overall, the coherence meets the requirements for a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'severe situation' and 'impose huge fine'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'I hope you doing well', 'kow' instead of 'know', and 'someone's park' instead of 'someone else's car'. Spelling errors like 'emply' and 'promty' occur, but they do not prevent the reader from understanding the core message. These characteristics align with Band 5.5 to Band 6.0, fitting comfortably at 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('As a result, I have to park...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as missing auxiliary verbs ('I hope you doing well'), incorrect verb tenses ('it is became a regular situation'), and awkward phrasing ('I look forward to take a action promty'). While communication is maintained, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the score from reaching a Band 6.0, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
