You live in a small apartment building with a parking lot in back, and you often cannot find an empty parking space when you get home from work.
Write a letter to your landlord. In your letter

Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Property Manager,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to complain about the dissatisfaction I face everyday. After coming home from work I am not able to find the parking spot as all of the spots are fully occupied, and I have to park my car outside the building.
As a resident who lives in the building it is my right to get a parking spot around the building area. Because I pay all the maintenances and bills regularly without delays, it bothers me that management does not give back to me the same. This disappoints me everyday as of living in such a well known building and society.
I would suggest that if you could please put the reserved for the residents sign in the parking spot, so that it would be easy for me to park at my spot everyday rather than wandering around to look for parking. Please give this matter your immediate attention.
Yours sincerely,
Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the situation in sentences such as 'I am not able to find the parking spot as all of the spots are fully occupied.' You explain why it bothers you by stating that you pay maintenance and bills regularly, making you feel that management is not giving back. Finally, you suggest a practical solution by asking the landlord to 'put the reserved for the residents sign in the parking spot.' The tone is generally appropriate for a complaint letter to a landlord, and the purpose of the communication is clear from the beginning to the end. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently extended to fulfill the task requirements well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter exhibits a clear overall logical organization, progressing naturally from the greeting and statement of purpose to the description of the problem, the explanation of the impact, the proposed solution, and the closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different stages of the letter, such as the problem description in the first paragraph and the justification in the second. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, as seen in phrases like 'After coming home from work' and 'Because I pay all the maintenances.' However, referencing is occasionally repetitive, and transitions between sentences could sometimes be smoother to achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You successfully attempt some less common lexical items, such as 'fully occupied' and 'immediate attention.' However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'complain about the dissatisfaction I face everyday' instead of 'express my dissatisfaction,' and 'pay all the maintenances' instead of 'pay all the maintenance fees.' Spelling is generally accurate, but some lexical choices lack the precision and natural flexibility expected at higher band levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-style structure in 'I would suggest that if you could please put...' and subordinate clauses like 'As a resident who lives in the building...' There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'put the reserved for the residents sign' and the repetitive use of 'everyday' (which should often be written as the adverb 'every day'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are generally well controlled, and errors do not impede communication, ensuring a solid mid-level score.
