Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear sir/ madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you my concern for parking in a apartment building. As you know in back of the building there is a enough space but i am not able to find any space for my car when returning to home from work. As in building one south Indian family live, they always parked their car in wrong way by covering enough spaces.
when i come to home it irriates me a lot by seeing a parking slot. It waste my a lot of time to park my car owing to this i invest energy on this feel very tired. A

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student covers all three bullet points from the prompt: describing the situation regarding the lack of parking, explaining why it bothers them, and suggesting a solution. However, the response falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 113 words. This under-length issue directly impacts the development of ideas, restricting the depth of the explanation and suggestions. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord, the brevity and lack of full development mean the response does not reach the higher band thresholds. Therefore, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate based on these limitations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter lacks proper paragraphing, ending abruptly with incomplete sentences and stray characters like an orphan letter 'A' at the conclusion. While there is a basic chronological attempt to describe the issue and the emotional impact, the overall organization is weak and lacks clear progression. Cohesive devices are minimal or misused, such as 'owing to this i invest energy on this feel very tired', which disrupts the flow of ideas. Referencing between sentences is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought smoothly. This aligns best with the descriptors for Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, such as 'space', 'car', and 'home'. There are several noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, including 'inform you my concern for parking in a apartment building' instead of 'about', and 'parked their car in wrong way' instead of 'in the wrong way'. The phrase 'invest energy on this feel very tired' is unnatural. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, the restricted range and frequent word-choice errors constrain the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in complex attempts. There are missing prepositions and articles (e.g., 'in back of the building there is a enough space', 'in a apartment building'). Punctuation and capitalization are poorly controlled, as seen with lowercase 'i' used for the first-person pronoun throughout the text and missing punctuation at the end. Errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning remains partially accessible, leading to a band score of 5.0.
