Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
I writing regarding the issue of parking space, I have been facing lately. I have noticed that someone has been using my parking area.
Whenever I return from work, there is always are a car parked on my designated spot. It is a black Honda Civic, Licence plate number ONCB 111. Since I work full time and often come home late, I have not got a change to talk to the owner of the vehicle.
This is a serious problem for me, because I had to park on street as there is no space in the parking lot. Due to which few days back someone hit my car. I was unable to track the vechicle, because camras are only in our parking space. Apart from that I got a parking ticket as well.
I would suggest either you talk to the car owner and move it or provide me another parking area. As I have been paying for parking along with my rent. I will appriciate if you can arrange something as soon as possible. Kindly companciate for the parking ticket and days I have parked on street.
I hope you will take this into consideration and respond as early as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Hardeep Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task effectively. You successfully describe the situation regarding the unauthorized black Honda Civic parked in your designated spot. You clearly explain why this bothers you by noting that you are forced to park on the street, which led to your car being hit and receiving a parking ticket. Finally, you suggest practical solutions, such as the landlord talking to the car owner or providing an alternative parking area, while also requesting compensation. The tone of the letter is appropriate for addressing a landlord, and all bullet points are well-developed and supported with relevant details, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall structure with an appropriate opening and closing, and the information is logically organized into paragraphs. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect: the description of the problem, the consequences and frustrations, and the proposed solutions. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Since', 'Apart from that', and 'As'. However, paragraphing could be slightly refined, as some sentences feel a bit disjointed, particularly regarding the flow of ideas around the parking ticket and compensation. Despite these minor issues, progression is clear throughout, aligning well with a Band 6.5 or 7.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a semi-formal letter, using terms such as 'designated spot', 'full time', and 'compensation'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'Licence' instead of license, 'change' instead of chance, 'vechicle' instead of vehicle, 'camras' instead of cameras, 'appriciate' instead of appreciate, and 'companciate' instead of compensate. These errors do not impede communication, but the spelling mistakes prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band. Overall, the vocabulary is sufficient for the task, fitting a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes throughout the text. For example, the opening sentence 'I writing regarding' contains a missing auxiliary verb, 'there is always are a car' has a subject-verb agreement error, and 'because I had to park on street' is missing an article ('the street'). Punctuation is also sometimes faulty, such as splitting sentences where a comma splice or fragment occurs ('Due to which few days back someone hit my car'). These frequent errors place this response solidly at Band 6.0.
