Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. Smith,

My name is Patrick, and I am wiriting to express my concern regarding unavailibility of parking space at the back side of the building. As far as I remebered as per the rental agreemet, each and every tenants are assign with designated parking space associate with their appartment. Along with that, the guest parking space is also available at the front side of the building. However, majority of the time when I get back from the office, my belonging space is occupied by someone else.

Apart from the availablity, the main issue is the whole lot is filled with cars, which ultimately left me with the choice of parking at the street. I have propose the issues to the building manger multiple times, but no considerable steps were taken form their sides.

I would like to suggest a few solutions which can make a drastic empact effectively. For instance, if we could circulate the rules among the tenetes with the strict policy of potential consequences would be beneficial to everyone.

I hope you would understand my concern and take some serious action againt the them.

Regards,

Patrick Jane

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt. You described the situation well by stating that your assigned parking space at the back of the building is frequently occupied by someone else, and you explained that this forces you to park on the street. You also provided a clear suggestion to solve the problem by circulating strict rules and potential consequences among tenants. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, your explanation of why it bothers you could have been expanded with more specific impacts on your daily routine. Despite this, your purpose is clear and all bullet points are adequately addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. You begin with an appropriate salutation, move on to describing the problem and your previous attempts to fix it, and conclude with constructive suggestions and a formal sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different parts of your message. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, such as with transitional phrases like 'Apart from the availablity' and referencing that is slightly unclear in sentences like 'againt the them.' Improving the flow between sentences will help elevate the overall structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'concern', 'consequences', and 'drastic impact'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that slightly affect precision, including 'wiriting' instead of writing, 'unavailibility' instead of unavailability, 'remebered' instead of remembered, 'agreemet' instead of agreement, 'tenetes' instead of tenants, and 'empact' instead of impact. While these errors do not impede overall communication, reducing such slips by carefully proofreading your work is necessary to achieve a higher lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable understanding of sentence structure. There are, nevertheless, several errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb and pluralisation issues such as 'each and every tenants are assign with' instead of 'each tenant is assigned' and 'I have propose' instead of 'I have proposed'. Preposition usage also shows occasional flaws, such as 'form their sides' instead of 'from their side'. Although these errors are present, they rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
