Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Naseem,

I hope you are fine, Iam writing this letter to let you know about the parking issues regarding the space for my car.

when i came back from office, this is very difficult for me to park my car because, there is no empty space available in parking area.

As you know the I have some heart issues and this causes disturbance, I feel so suffocated because after office Iam very tired and Iam not in the position to deal with such issues.

i would suggest to make some space and to hang small banner with assigning a name tag so that no one is allowed to interrupt or car park in that area. This makes an hassle free environment and all the members of the building can park their car easily. If you want any help or more details related to this issue, you can call me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

your sincerely,

Nizamuddin.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully address all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for Task Achievement. You describe the situation regarding the lack of parking spaces in your building's lot, explain why this is a significant issue by mentioning your health concerns and exhaustion after work, and suggest a practical solution involving assigned name tags and small banners. While all three bullet points are covered, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the explanation of the problem and the suggested solution are somewhat brief and could be extended with more specific details to fully demonstrate the next level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement, allowing the reader to easily follow your purpose and progression. You use appropriate paragraphing to separate your greeting, the description of the problem, the personal impact, your suggestion, and your sign-off. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical or faulty, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences and inconsistent capitalization at the beginning of clauses like 'when i came back'. Referencing and logical connectors could be managed more flexibly to ensure a smoother flow between your ideas and to lift the organizational control to a higher level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary choice is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range of words to communicate your message about the parking problem. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'suffocated', 'interrupt', and 'hassle free environment', but these are accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as writing 'car park' instead of 'park their cars'. Additionally, there are spelling and mechanical errors like missing capitalizations and run-on phrasing, which place your lexical control firmly at this level. To improve, you should focus on more precise word choices and correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your letter, attempting various structures to explain your situation. However, there are several errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage that prevent a higher score, such as comma splices ('Iam writing this letter..., Iam not in the position'), missing articles ('in parking area'), and incorrect capitalization ('Iam', 'when i came back'). While these errors do not heavily impede communication, they occur frequently enough to show that control over complex structures remains inconsistent. Practicing correct punctuation, subject-verb spacing, and article rules will help you progress.
