Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Sharma,
I am writing to express a concern regarding empty parking space in our parking lot.
As you know, I have been working from morning 8 am to evening 8pm and when after work I reached at home, there is not a single vacant area to park my vehicle.
Since it had been happening from last three week, when I was trying to find any empty space to park my car, It might took more than 10 minutes to find any space to park a car. Even though most of the time there were no place to park, furthermore, this is really stressful specially when you spend your whole day at work and nearly end of the day encounter this type of struggle.
lastly, I would like to suggest a dedicated parking for each apartment owners, which is only belongs to them.
This could be helpful for everyone by only park their cars at their dedicated lots. Also, it gives them independence to leave early for their jobs and come late, they do not need to worry about parking and I will eliminate excess time to find parking in a lot.
I hope you would like these suggestion and might take prompt corrective action to resolve it, I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Rakesh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly describe the parking situation, explaining that you cannot find a space when you return from work. You explain why it bothers you by detailing the stress and frustration this causes after a long workday, and you suggest a practical solution involving dedicated parking spaces for each apartment owner. Your position is clear throughout the letter, and your ideas are extended and supported effectively, as seen when you elaborate on how dedicated lots would give residents independence regarding their schedules. While the ideas are well-developed and cover all bullet points, the extension of ideas tends to over-generalise slightly in the final points, keeping the response firmly at this solid level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established from the beginning. You use standard letter formatting with an appropriate opening and closing, and information is generally grouped logically into paragraphs dealing with the problem, your feelings, and your suggestions. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition 'since it had been happening from last three week' creates a clunky connection, and referencing becomes slightly unclear in phrases like 'which is only belongs to them' and 'I will eliminate excess time'. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally stumbles due to awkward cohesive devices, meaning the overall arrangement remains at a consistent functional level without achieving smooth, flexible progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'express a concern', 'vacant area', and 'prompt corrective action'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that reflect a restricted command of precise terminology. Examples include writing 'empty parking space' instead of 'spaces', 'reached at home' instead of 'arrived home', 'from last three week' instead of 'for the past three weeks', and 'only belongs to them' instead of 'belong exclusively to them'. Additionally, expressions like 'excess time' are slightly unnatural in this context. While these vocabulary and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score because precision and natural style are lacking.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures such as subordinate clauses ('when after work I reached at home') and conditional elements. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Noticeable issues include tense and aspect inconsistencies ('It might took', 'since it had been happening'), missing articles ('there were no place', 'to park a car'), preposition misuse ('working from morning 8 am'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('each apartment owners, which is only belongs'). Punctuation is also problematic, with comma splices connecting independent clauses ('to find any empty space to park my car, It might took...'). These frequent errors mean the sentence structures lack consistent control.
