Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. John,
I wish to draw your attention towards a very important issue regarding insufficent space at parking lot. Since I am facing this issue from quite some time, therefoore I thought it would be better to bring this issue in your notice.
As you are aware of the fact that I usually leave my office at around 07:00 PM and it takes around 45 minutes for me to reach home. By then, I almost on daily basis, find parking lot already full which force me to park my car beside the main road.
I understand and appreciate that all the residents of apartment building are already provided with designated parking space up to one vehicle. However, the problem stems due to relatives or visitiors of some residents who are regularly parking their cars on the spaces designated for others. Before highlighting this issue before you, I personally tried to resolve this issue by speaking to the residents, especially those living in apratment 09 and 15 but unfortunately it appears that they have turned deaf ear to this issue.
For the matter that I have just raised above, I would like to request you to please issue some sort of advisory addressing all the residnets to comply with the regulations in terms of designated parking space that is equally avaialble to all the residents.
I would also like you to please note my apprehension that parking of vehicles beside the road is not only unsafe but also an unlawful activity. Therefore, I seek your kind and urgent indulgence on the matter.
Yours sincerly,
Hasnain Ali
Resident of appartment No. 17.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: you describe the recurring lack of spaces after work, explain the inconvenience and safety concern of parking beside the road, and request that the landlord remind residents to respect allocated spaces. The specific arrival time and examples of apartments 09 and 15 make the situation credible, while the formal request gives the letter a clear purpose. Your ideas are relevant and supported, though the proposed solution is somewhat general: an advisory may not prevent visitors from taking residents’ spaces. To develop the response further, suggest a practical measure, such as visitor permits, clearer space labels, or enforcement of the parking rules. The concern about unlawful parking is also asserted rather than explained in detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the problem, describe when it occurs, explain its cause and your attempts to address it, and then make a request. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Therefore,” and “For the matter that I have just raised above” help connect the points. Some transitions are more formal or wordy than necessary, particularly the final phrase, which makes the request feel less direct. There is also some repetition of “issue” and “parking” across the letter. More concise links and a clearer separation between the cause of the problem and the proposed remedy would make the progression smoother and cohesion more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of formal vocabulary for a complaint, including “designated parking space,” “residents,” “advisory,” and “apprehension.” These choices help communicate the issue and maintain a suitably polite tone. However, several spelling errors—such as “insufficent,” “visitiors,” “residnets,” and “sincerly”—reduce accuracy. Some expressions are also awkward or imprecise: “draw your attention towards” and “turned deaf ear” do not sound natural in this context, while “indulgence” is not the intended word for asking the landlord to act. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling; this will make your formal vocabulary more effective without needing unnecessarily elaborate phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple statements and longer sentences with subordinate clauses, for example the sentence beginning “As you are aware of the fact that…” and the explanation of why the parking lot is full. This shows some range, and the meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, including “I almost on daily basis, find” (missing a verb construction), “which force me” (subject–verb agreement), and “I am facing this issue from quite some time” (tense and time expression). The opening sentence also has an incomplete construction after “regarding.” Review articles, agreement, and verb forms, and simplify long sentences where needed. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
