Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Adeel,
Hope you are doing well, I am writing this to address the issue regarding parking slot I was allotted while renting the apartment but unfortunately the parking is full most of the time when i return to home from work.
My wife is Doctor and she has to leave for work when I return and kids are alone at home which bothers me allot due to unavailability of parking.
I would like to request if you can allot me fixed spot for parking and ask the security guard not to allow anyone else to park there. It will be of extreme ease for me to manage my daily routine and kids.
I hope your understanding in the matter and will be highly grateful for the support.
Your's faithful,
Noman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three required points: you explain that the parking area is often full, describe the effect on your family, and request a reserved space with enforcement by the security guard. The reason involving your wife’s work schedule and the children being alone gives the complaint a personal context. However, the impact and proposed solution are only briefly explained, and the response is 18 words below the required minimum. Use the additional space to clarify how often this happens and why a designated space or another arrangement would help. A fuller explanation of the request would make the letter more complete while keeping its purpose clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: the parking problem, its effect on your family, your request, and a closing. This makes the main message easy to follow, and the paragraphs separate the key points. The progression is nevertheless quite compressed, with few links between ideas; for example, the connection between your wife leaving for work and the children being alone could be explained more clearly. The opening also joins a greeting and the purpose in one sentence, which makes the transition less smooth. Add a brief explanation or transition between the situation and its consequences, and use a conventional closing to make the letter feel more fully organised.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “parking,” “allot,” “unavailability,” and “daily routine,” so the reader can understand the request. There is some attempt to express the inconvenience and its consequences, but several choices are unnatural or imprecise for a formal letter. For instance, “parking slot I was allotted” and “of extreme ease” do not express the intended meaning naturally, while “allot” is repeated. Spelling and form issues such as “allot” for “a lot” and “Your’s” also reduce accuracy. Choose more natural collocations such as “assigned parking space” and “cause considerable inconvenience,” and vary repeated wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “when I return from work” and “when I return and kids are alone at home.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some sentence-boundary, article, and clause-structure errors make the writing less controlled. The opening, “Hope you are doing well, I am writing…,” joins two independent clauses with a comma; “My wife is Doctor” is missing an article, and “I hope your understanding” lacks a grammatical construction such as “I hope you understand.” Use complete sentences and check articles and clause links. These revisions would improve accuracy while allowing you to retain a mix of sentence forms.
