Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Landlord,

Hope you are well, the purpose of writting this letter I can not find any space in parking whenever I come back home from my job late at night.

Firstly, I will tell you the situation as I am the manager of a well known company and mostly I leave the office at the end, check everything at the office and turn off all lights. Mostly, I reached home late at night , the parking space almost full and no spare spot left.

Furthermore, it always distrub me beacuse every time I park my car outside my home, most of time people break side mirror of my vehicle and it cost me alot. Every day new thing of my vehicle were broken and I can nor afford such things on daily basis.

In the last, I will suggest you to make some new parking area or spend the area to back of my home as that is also your space and free plot.

It will be good for me if you solve this problem.

Yours sincerely,

waqas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain that the lot is usually full when you return late, describe the damage caused by parking outside, and propose creating additional parking. The reason this bothers you is particularly clear in the account of repeated damage and repair costs. This meets the task well, and the specific details show some development beyond a bare complaint. However, the proposed solution is less fully explained: “make some new parking area” and use the “free plot” do not clarify how many spaces might be added or whether the landlord could reserve spaces for residents. A more precise, practical request and a slightly fuller explanation of the situation would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable progression from the parking problem, to its consequences, and then to a proposed solution. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points, and signposts such as “Firstly” and “Furthermore” make the sequence easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward: “In the last” is not a natural way to introduce the final request, and “Firstly” promises a sequence that is not clearly maintained. The opening sentence also combines a greeting, purpose, and complaint in a way that makes the relationship between ideas unclear. Use simpler transitions such as “I am writing because” and “To resolve this,” and make each paragraph focus on one clear point. This would improve cohesion while preserving the overall organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main issue, including “parking space,” “spare spot,” “side mirror,” and “parking area.” The reader can understand the complaint and the requested action. However, the range is limited, and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make the letter less fluent: “spend the area” does not express the intended idea, while “distrub” and “beacuse” are misspelled. Phrases such as “new thing of my vehicle were broken” and “it cost me alot” also show difficulty choosing natural wording. Aim to learn common collocations for complaints and repairs, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise expressions would make your request sound clearer and more appropriate for a landlord.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, for example, “Mostly, I reached home late at night, the parking space almost full and no spare spot left.” This shows an effort to connect related information, but the sentence needs a clear main clause and more accurate verb forms. Other examples include “the purpose of writting this letter I can not find,” where the clauses are not grammatically connected, and “Every day new thing of my vehicle were broken,” which has problems with articles, number, and agreement. The closing request, “It will be good for me if you solve this problem,” is more controlled. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check tense consistency and singular/plural agreement. Greater accuracy in these patterns would make the message easier to read.
