Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Charnjit,
I am writing this letter to bring your attention to a problem that requires immediate action. My name is Harnoor and I am renting one of your apartment in the rental building located at Sherbrook Street. I have signed one year of lease agreement which gives me the right to use parking facilities of the buidling. Unfortunately, I am unable to find an empty parking space to park my car for last one week.
I am working overnights and in the morining's when I returned from my work , I struggles for hours to wait for a available parking space. Moreover, one day I got sick and came home early and could not able to find a parking space. Therefore, I parked my car on the curb which resulted to a violation and I was charged with fine.
I would like you to take immediate action to solve this problem. I suggest you to install cameras to make sure to report illegal parking by outsiders in the premises. In addition to this, I would like you to allot a specific parking space to all tenants to avoid problems in the future. This will also prevent waste of time used in finding a parking space.
I hope you like my sugesstions and take a prompt action to solve this issue. If the problem continues, I unfortunately I have to end my lease agreement to avoid unncessery headache
Yours faithfully,
Harnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly addresses all three requirements: you describe the shortage of spaces, explain its impact, and propose practical remedies. The details that you work overnight and received a fine after parking on the curb make the problem personal and support your request for action. Your suggestions—monitoring the lot for outsiders and assigning spaces to tenants—are relevant and give the landlord a clear response to consider. The closing warning that you may end the lease also makes your position clear. To strengthen the response further, explain how the landlord could identify which vehicles belong to tenants, or how assigned spaces would be allocated, so the proposed solutions are more fully developed and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: the opening identifies the issue, the second paragraph gives examples of its effects, and the third presents solutions. Paragraphing is appropriate, and linking expressions such as “Unfortunately,” “Moreover,” and “Therefore” help show relationships between ideas. The final paragraph provides a clear closing. Some connections are less smooth, however: “In addition to this” introduces a second proposal in a somewhat formulaic way, and “This” in “This will also prevent waste of time” could refer more precisely to assigning spaces. The transition from the request to the possible end of the lease is also abrupt. Use more precise referencing and connect the consequence to the request for action.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “parking facilities,” “violation,” “allot,” and “lease agreement.” These choices communicate the situation and your proposals, although some wording is inaccurate or unnatural: “struggles for hours to wait” and “waste of time used in finding” do not express the ideas idiomatically. There are also spelling errors, including “buidling,” “sugesstions,” and “unncessery,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe yourself as “having difficulty finding a space” and refer to “time spent searching for parking.” This would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which resulted to a violation” and a conditional in “If the problem continues.” However, some grammatical errors remain and occasionally make the reader pause. Examples include “one of your apartment,” “I struggles,” “I could not able to find,” and “I have to end my lease agreement,” where number, verb form, or sentence construction needs correction. The sentence about returning from work also shifts awkwardly between present and past forms. Review subject–verb agreement, articles and plurals, and use one correct verb pattern at a time—for instance, “could not find” rather than “could not able to find.” More accurate control of these forms would improve clarity.
