Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Lord,
I am writing this letter to you on the parking issue which I am facing every second day. I am living the apartment under your ownershop, near to the Central Super Market. The parking slot provided with the apartment is on the back side of the building, which is most of the time occupied by the staff working in the Central Market.
When i come back from work to home and looking to park my car, the parking space always occupied by others and then i have to move around in the area for alternative parking. Several time, i recieved fines from Police department due to parking in ohrers location. I have to walk long distance as well after the busy work schedule at my work of Ten hours long shift due to car parking issue.
I will suggest you to allocate either an alternative parking or to post a proper signboard here that parking is reserved or dedicated parking.
Your faithfully,
Zahid

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter covers all three requested points: you explain that the rear parking area is often occupied by Central Market staff, describe the inconvenience of searching for another space and receiving fines, and propose alternative parking or a sign. The personal details about your long shift help show why the issue matters. This meets the task well, though some points could be developed more fully: for example, clarify whether the market staff are using spaces assigned to residents, and specify what practical arrangement you would prefer the landlord to make. A more direct request for the landlord to investigate or respond would also make the purpose of the letter clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the opening identifies the problem, the next paragraph explains its effects, and the final paragraph offers solutions. Paragraphing supports this progression, and the reader can follow the main message. However, some connections between ideas are awkward or repetitive, particularly the repeated references to parking and the transition from receiving fines to having to walk a long distance. Linking these consequences more smoothly would improve cohesion. The closing, “Your faithfully,” also does not follow the conventional form for a letter addressed to a named person; use “Yours sincerely” to complete the letter appropriately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “parking space,” “alternative parking,” “fines,” and “reserved,” so the main meaning is clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “busy work schedule” and “ten hours long shift.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “parking issue,” “parking slot provided with the apartment,” and “post a proper signboard.” Spelling errors such as “ownershop,” “recieved,” and “ohrers” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural phrases such as “parking problem,” “space allocated to residents,” and “put up a sign,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and longer sentences, such as the sentence beginning “When i come back from work,” which attempts to explain the sequence of events and their consequences. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I am living the apartment” is missing a necessary preposition, and “the parking space always occupied” needs a verb. The opening sentence also has an awkward structure, while “Several time, i recieved fines” has problems with number and sentence capitalization. Practise forming complete clauses and checking articles, verb forms, and agreement; these corrections would make your message more fluent and precise.
