Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear John,
I hope you are doing well. It feels like ages since we last caught up, so I thought I'd drop you a line to tell you what's been happening. There is a good news I want to share with you that I've bought a new house which is near the lake. It's a two story house, there is a small courtyard and there are three rooms and a living room. There is a small kitchen garden, where I plant some saplings of vegetables. It is situated in a very peaceful area near the lake.
In the morning I do yoga on the terrace while enjoying the view of sunrise, also in every evening I usually have my tea while enjoy the sunset and the cold breeze that is coming from the lake. Living in this beautiful house seems like I am living in a heaven. It's vibrant and cozy atmosphere always give me positive vibe.We
As, I know you love the lakes, therefore I want you to come at my place and enjoy some days whenever you are free. What about this weekend? We will do alot of fun. Can't wait to see you.
With love,
Max

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: the house is described as a two-storey home with a courtyard, three rooms, a living room and a kitchen garden; you explain your morning yoga and evening tea; and you invite John to visit, even suggesting the weekend. These details make the letter relevant and friendly. The description of how you spend your time is more specific than the invitation, which remains brief, and the house details could be clarified—for example, whether this is a rented summer house or a home you have bought. To develop the ideas further, add one or two activities you could enjoy together and make the invitation arrangements more definite. The main purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening, a paragraph about the house, one about your routine, and a closing invitation. This progression helps the reader follow the message, and the friendly opening and sign-off suit a letter to a friend. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. In the routine paragraph, the sentence beginning “In the morning” joins two activities with “also” in a way that makes the structure awkward. The next paragraph begins “As, I know,” and “therefore,” which makes the connection sound mechanical. Remove unnecessary linking words and use clearer transitions, such as “You know how much you love lakes, so…” Also correct the stray “We” at the end of the previous paragraph to avoid interrupting the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including descriptive phrases such as “peaceful area,” “cold breeze,” and “vibrant and cozy atmosphere.” These help convey the setting and your enjoyment of it. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that keep the wording from being consistently precise: “There is a good news” is not idiomatic, “plant some saplings of vegetables” is an awkward description, and “positive vibe” is informal and imprecise in this context. “We will do alot of fun” is also an unnatural collocation, and “alot” should be written as two words. Aim for natural combinations such as “some good news,” “grow vegetables,” and “have a lot of fun.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, verb forms and agreement. For example, “There is a good news” needs a different article pattern, while “while enjoy the sunset” should be “while enjoying the sunset.” In “It's vibrant and cozy atmosphere always give me positive vibe,” the possessive form should be “Its,” and the singular subject requires “gives.” The sentence beginning “In the morning” also needs clearer punctuation or restructuring to avoid joining clauses awkwardly. Practise checking articles, subject–verb agreement and parallel verb forms, then proofread each sentence for punctuation. These corrections would make your varied sentence attempts more controlled.
