Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sara,
I hope you are doing well.I'm writing this letter to update you regarding a house I recently rented for this sunny season.
The interior of the house is comfortable and cozy. The lounge has huge window, these aren't regular ones;they slide entirely into the walls and when you open them, you can see the beautiful lake, and listening to the water hit the shore. There is a private pool as well which is located next to the door.An open kichen, where I cook while breathing the fresh air.It feels like I am living in fictional story, it's so dreamy.
I usually wake up, whenever I feel that I have rested enough. I open the windows and listen to the birds chirping all around, with the breezy air, it doesn't feel like its summer season already. Then I enjoy keeping the window open, I read a novel or newspaper. After getting fresh, I usulally cook meal of the day along with my breakfast. Sometimes when I get bore I spend time in the pool, the view looks straight out of a luxury resort.
I would like you to come here and stay here for a week. You will love to stay here and won't regret coming. We will watch a movie in the T.V lounge with the breathe of fresh air. We will do all the gossips while sitting by the window. It will be difficult for you to decide going back as you will love everything about this house.
Looking forward to see you.
Kind regards,
Alam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter fulfils all three purposes clearly: you describe the house and its lake-facing windows, explain your relaxed routine, and invite Sara to stay for a week. Details such as the private pool, reading by the open window, and cooking breakfast help the reader picture the visit, and the friendly tone suits a letter to a friend. The invitation is especially clear, with activities you could enjoy together. To make the ideas even more fully developed, clarify a few details—for example, what you do outside the house or how you spend time by the lake. Overall, the response covers the task well and gives relevant, engaging information.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: it introduces the rental, describes the house, explains your daily routine, and ends with an invitation. Paragraphing supports these distinct purposes, and time markers such as “Then” and “Sometimes” help organise the routine. The sequence is easy to follow, although some links between ideas are abrupt, particularly in the house description, where several features are joined in one long sentence. The repeated use of “window” and “here” also makes parts of the letter less smooth. Use a few more varied references and divide the longer descriptions into clearer sentences to make the connections feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the setting and activities, including “cozy,” “breezy air,” “chirping,” and “luxury resort.” These choices help create a warm, inviting picture, and the meaning remains clear throughout. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and spelling slips, such as “fictional story,” “get bore,” “do all the gossips,” and “breathe of fresh air.” “Kichen” and “usulally” are also misspelled. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the house as “like something from a story” and say you “chat” rather than “do gossip.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the description of the windows and the sentence beginning “After getting fresh.” The message is understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences awkward. For example, “The lounge has huge window” needs an article, while “An open kichen, where I cook…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. In “I usually wake up, whenever,” the comma is unnecessary, and “Looking forward to see you” should use a gerund after “to.” Review articles, complete sentence structure, punctuation, and verb patterns. More consistently accurate sentences would make your varied ideas easier to read.
