Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Neha,
Hope you are doing well, It's been a while since we last spoke , I wanted to share exciting news with you. As I am in Toronto right now and for this summer I have rented a house near the lakeshore.
If I talk about the appearance it is beautifully constructed wooden house with breathtaking view from the the balcony which feels like a scenic view in movies. At the front of the house there is garden where we can see a huge variety of flora. However, in the backyard they have swimming poll with hot water and a patio from where we can see the whole lake and enjoy the sunset view.
I am very pleased to be here as this is the best momment of my life. Me and my husband we love to enjoy our hot water pool and also the food nearby here is delecious which take me to the heaven. Also we have rented a car which help to explore this area and with decent amount for 5 days.
I really want you and your husband to come and join us as soon as possible, Can't wait to catch up in person. Looking forward to hearing from you soon
Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the house, detailing how you are spending your time, and extending an invitation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. The response is well-structured, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. No parts of the prompt were omitted, and the development of ideas is sufficient for this task type.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the description of the house, the activities, and finally the invitation. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Also', and 'As' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentence structures could be more fluid to improve the overall flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more descriptive language like 'breathtaking view' and 'scenic view'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'swimming poll' (spelling error: pool) and 'take me to the heaven' (idiomatic error). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Some phrases are slightly repetitive or awkward, but they do not impede the reader's understanding of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Me and my husband we love' (redundant subject), 'which help to explore' (missing object), and punctuation issues like comma splices ('Hope you are doing well, It's been a while'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage (e.g., 'the the balcony'), and more accurate punctuation.
