Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rahul,
I'm writing this letter to inform you that I have rented a house near the Simcoe lake at Hamilton for this summer. As i have been for the long time, finally my dream came true and I rented for 3 months.
It's a beautiful 3 bedrooms, hall and kitchen house with the big open balcony giving exposure to the lake and sunlight. This house is newly built and interestingly, I'm the first tenants of this house. The owner also gives big 65" Samsung TV with PS5 gaming module.
As you know, I'm fond of playing racing games on TV, I would like to spend my half of the day by playing the Vice city game and FIFA football game. Please join with me, that would make more exhilarting. Last time, I bet you and challenging you again in the race game.
Please come to join me on this beautiful rental property. I'm sure that you would be definitely loved it.
Best Regards,
Ketul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points: the house is described, your daily activities are outlined, and an invitation is extended. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas could be developed further to reach a higher band. For instance, while you mention the house features, adding more descriptive detail about the atmosphere or the surroundings would enhance the response. The invitation is clear, but could be more persuasive. Overall, the task requirements are fully met, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the description, the activities, and finally the invitation. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As you know' and 'Please come to join me,' which help the flow. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother in some places. For example, the connection between the house description and the gaming activities is a bit abrupt. Improving the use of linking words would help the text flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'exhilarating' and 'rental property.' There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'giving exposure to the lake' (which sounds slightly unnatural) and 'I'm the first tenants' (which should be singular). While you attempt to use some descriptive language, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring subject-verb agreement in your noun phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'As i have been for the long time' (which is unclear) and 'I'm sure that you would be definitely loved it' (incorrect passive voice). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some minor slips. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on verb tenses and consistent sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
