Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Amit Kumar

I hope everything is going well with you I am really exited to tell you that I have rented a house at the lake for this summer vacation. I am sure you will like this property because its comes with a lake view and beautiful trees all around the house .

There are some things that I would like to tell you about the house which I am sure you are going to like. first of all it comes with a big swimming poll and a huge kitchen on the main floor also I know you are a gym rat and luckily there is a gym in the house too.

Furthermore ,there are three bedrooms in the house and they all have their washroom connected to the room .

I am very excited to invite you over as we planed it last summer also fell free to bring any of your friends because you know I like to meet with new people .

I will look forward for your reply on this.

Thanks

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the house, explaining how you are spending your time, and inviting your friend. However, the second bullet point regarding how you are spending your time is only implicitly addressed by mentioning the gym and swimming pool; it would be better to explicitly describe your daily activities or plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that each bullet point is developed with more specific detail or personal reflection.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'first of all', 'furthermore', and 'also'. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences like 'I hope everything is going well with you I am really exited...'. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear sentence boundaries would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'property', 'connected', and 'vacation'. There are some minor errors, such as 'swimming poll' (should be 'pool') and 'planed' (should be 'planned'). You also use some informal phrasing like 'gym rat', which is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and avoid repetitive structures. Spelling errors are present but do not impede the overall meaning of your letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, but there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. For example, 'its comes with' should be 'it comes with', and there is a lack of full stops between independent clauses. Additionally, 'I will look forward for your reply' should be 'I look forward to your reply'. While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence punctuation will help you improve.
