Student answer (Band 7.0)
Task 1
Dear Sam,
I hope you are doing great. I told you that I wanted to rent a house, finally I got my dream house and it is 4 bedroom house with one kitchen, attached washrooms and a dinning area. It is not only a beautiful house, but it is faced by a lake which enhances its beauty.
I rented this house because you know that how much I love being in nature. I usually wake up early morning and go on a walk at lake side with my dog Teggy. Sometimes, I prefer to perform exercises in my small gym area. After that I have my breakfast and sitting on couch with a cup of coffee enjoying outside scenes and watching something on TV.
I would love to invite you in my house. You know that my birthday is coming on next Saturday and if you are free, please come and visit us. Our other school friends are also invited and we have a great time together. I have a plan to through a small party and then playing Chess in my living area. I am early waiting for you.
With love

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully covers all three bullet points: describing the house, detailing daily activities, and extending an invitation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though some descriptions could be more vivid to fully develop the response. For example, the description of the house is functional but could benefit from more descriptive adjectives to paint a clearer picture. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into three distinct paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the house description to daily routines and finally the invitation. Cohesive devices such as 'after that', 'because', and 'if you are free' are used effectively to link sentences. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow could be improved with more varied linking phrases. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'faced by a lake' instead of 'overlooking a lake' and 'I am early waiting for you' instead of 'I am eagerly waiting for you'. While the range is sufficient to communicate the intended meaning, there is limited use of less common or idiomatic vocabulary. The word choices are functional but lack the precision and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is 4 bedroom house' (missing article), 'I told you that I wanted to rent a house, finally I got' (comma splice), and 'I have a plan to through a small party' (incorrect verb form). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some sentence boundaries could be better managed.
