Student answer (Band 8.5)
Dear Pawan,
I hope you are doing well. I wanted to tell you that I have rented a lovely house by a lake for the summer. It is a cosy wooden cottage with two bedrooms, a spacious living room, and a small garden. The best part is the balcony, where I can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding hills.
I have been spending my days in a relaxing way. Every morning, I go for a walk by the lake and enjoy the fresh air. Later, I read books, go fishing, or take a boat ride. In the evenings, I usually sit outside, watch the sunset, and have a barbecue. It is a perfect place to escape from the busy city life.
Why don't you come and stay with me for a few days? We can enjoy the peaceful surroundings together and make some wonderful memories. I am sure you will love this place.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes,
Harsh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have fully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the house (wooden cottage, two bedrooms, balcony), explained how you are spending your time (walking, reading, fishing, barbecuing), and extended a clear invitation to your friend. The tone is consistently appropriate for a letter to a friend, being warm and informal. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, providing a clear picture of your summer experience. You have successfully fulfilled the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which makes the structure easy to follow. You have used cohesive devices effectively, such as 'The best part is', 'Every morning', and 'In the evenings', to link your sentences and ideas naturally. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the transition between describing the house and your daily activities is smooth. The overall flow is coherent and easy to read.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You have used a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the context, such as 'spacious', 'surrounding', 'peaceful', and 'escape'. The word choices are natural and accurate, contributing to the friendly tone of the letter. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more precise or descriptive adjectives to elevate the writing to a higher band. However, the current range is sufficient and there are no errors in word choice or collocation that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.5
Your grammar is very strong, with a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have used various tenses correctly, such as the present perfect continuous ('I have been spending') and future forms ('Why don't you come'). Punctuation is used accurately throughout the letter. There are no significant grammatical errors, and the sentences are clear and well-constructed. The control over complex structures is consistent, and the writing is error-free, which demonstrates a high level of grammatical competence.
