Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sam,
Hope you’re doing great. It’s been a long time we did not meet. I have exciting news to share with you that I have just rented a house close to lake side for spending some time with friends and family in summer.
Moreover, the house is located at very convenient place. Along with that this house is perfect for small gatherings as well. Unique design and architecture enhance its interior and exterior both very well.
However, I am away from family right now but I’m spending my time here by playing some sports in the garden area and reading books with the cup of coffee in the evenings.
Therefore, I would like to invite you to spend few weeks with me here for some social gatherings and some deep chitchat about life.
I hope you will like this plan and pack your bags for our summer adventure. See you soon.
Lots of love ,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the house, explaining how time is spent, and inviting the friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the house is quite generic, and the explanation of how you spend your time could be more vivid. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details, such as mentioning a particular feature of the lake view or a specific book you are reading, to make the letter more engaging and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding invitation. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Along with that', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Along with that this house is perfect'. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother and less reliant on simple connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'convenient', 'architecture', and 'adventure'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'close to lake side' (should be 'lakeside' or 'the lakeside') and 'deep chitchat' (which is slightly informal/unnatural). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Incorporating more natural collocations and descriptive adjectives would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'It’s been a long time we did not meet' is awkward; a more natural phrasing would be 'It’s been a long time since we last met'. Additionally, there are minor errors with articles, such as 'at very convenient place' (should be 'at a very convenient place'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage.
