Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jaspreet
I hope you are having a great week. It's been a while we met. I recently moved here in Toronto with my family because of my promotion in another company and i had rented a 2-bedroom apartment on lakeshore in Mississauga. The view from backyard is mesmerizing. You can see beautiful shadow of sunrise and sunset from backyard and it looks more beautiful during nights as there a multiple lights on the side of lake.
I mostly spend my evening on lakeside. There are lots of activities to do such as barbecue, fishing and a small waterpark for children. There are small spots for gatherings.
I am planning a small meet and greet with our all friends and families. I will be more than happy to see you in this gathering. I think weekend would be better as everyone can stay a bit long and enjoy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the house, your activities, and inviting your friend. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which is a negative factor. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. For instance, the description of the house could be more vivid, and the invitation lacks specific details about the date or logistics. To improve, ensure you expand on your points to fully meet the word count requirement and provide a more comprehensive response that feels like a natural, well-developed letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the news of your move to the description of the house, your activities, and finally the invitation. Paragraphing is used, though the paragraphs are quite short. You use some cohesive devices like 'mostly' and 'such as', but the flow between sentences can feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences are connected more fluidly rather than appearing as a list of statements.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'mesmerizing', 'gathering', and 'promotion'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'It's been a while we met' (should be 'since we last met') and 'on the side of lake' (should be 'on the side of the lake'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focus on learning common collocations and ensuring articles (a/the) are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'moved here in Toronto' (should be 'to Toronto'), 'i had rented' (should be 'I have rented'), and 'there a multiple lights' (missing 'are'). Additionally, the pronoun 'I' is frequently written in lowercase. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent verb tenses, and basic punctuation rules like capitalizing 'I'.
