Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hello Dear,

Hope you are doing well, I am writing a letter to let you know that I am renting a house near lake I am telling you just because you were asking me for that house a month ago at that time someone was leaving there but know they leave the house.

First of all , my house has three bedroom, open kitchen, and a drawing room and also every house has its own washroom with walk in closet.

secondly, as I already mention that house is every near from lake which is very good even I used to spend my a lot of time near lake while playing basketball as there is one basketball ground.

lastly, I want to invite you to see the house as you can see how beautiful my house and that will be very helpful for you to see before moving. I feel very happy if will live in my house.

best wishes,

soniya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points: the house is described, the activities are mentioned, and an invitation is extended. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the description of the house is a simple list of rooms, and the invitation lacks detail. The tone is somewhat informal, which is appropriate for a letter to a friend, but the overall development of ideas is basic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more descriptive detail and elaborate on your experiences to better engage the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'secondly', and 'lastly'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the opening paragraph where the explanation of why you are writing is confusingly phrased. The logical progression is present but could be smoother with more varied linking words and better sentence-to-sentence connections.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You use simple terms like 'beautiful', 'good', and 'happy'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'someone was leaving there' (likely meaning 'living there') and 'every near from lake' (should be 'very near the lake'). To improve, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and precise collocations related to housing and leisure activities to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('near lake' instead of 'near the lake'), verb tenses ('as I already mention' instead of 'as I have already mentioned'), and prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of the message.
