Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
I hope you are doing well. I am glad to inform you that I have fulfilled my childhood dream that I have rented a house by a lake in this summer and I am also sure that you will also become very happy after receiving my letter.
Furthermore, it is a huge house having all facilities inside for example a small bbq, a huge swimming pool and also a mini theatre inside the house which is the best part of this house. Moreover, the balcony is also very spacious through which we can enjoy the sunset in evening.
Honestly, I am enjoying a lot with my family as you know my mother is also fond of lake and I also want to fulfill her every dream as I am independent now.
However, I would like to invite you to join us because it’s a been a long time that we haven’t met each other and I am sure you will also enjoy a lot with us. I hope this letter finds you well.
Thanks and Regards
Anamika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: the house is described, your activities are mentioned, and an invitation is extended. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the house has a 'mini theatre' and 'bbq', these points could be expanded to explain why they make the stay enjoyable. Similarly, the description of how you are spending your time is brief and focuses more on your mother than on your own daily activities. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully developed with more descriptive detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'However' to link your thoughts. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used in contexts where they do not fit perfectly, such as starting a paragraph with 'However' when you are not introducing a contrast. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'this house'. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring they are used to show logical relationships will enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'spacious', 'independent', and 'fulfilled'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fulfilled my childhood dream that I have rented' (which is grammatically awkward) and 'enjoying a lot' (which is better expressed as 'having a great time'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Incorporating more natural collocations and varied descriptive adjectives would strengthen this section.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'it’s a been a long time' contains an extra 'a', and 'I am also sure that you will also become very happy' is slightly unnatural. There are also issues with tense consistency and preposition usage, such as 'in this summer' (should be 'this summer'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for small articles and verb tense consistency.
