Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Tim,
This summer my family planned to rent a lake house to spend our whole summer over here as you know my dad usually is on a business trip and this summer he was with us to spend his summer.
It is a beautiful lakeside house surrounded with nature and stunning views of calm water and is very peaceful surrounding, it has a big garage.
I am living here for past 10 days and every day felt surreal to me, every morning I woke up by the chirping of the birds, then my mother cooks delicious food after that in the afternoon me and my dad go for fishing and then in the evening my family prepares a barbecue and ends our day and sometimes we play football as well in the evening.
I know you also must be enjoying you summer but I wish you should also be with us to experience it, I am planning a friend get together and I think that you should also be here.
Your's friend,
Harshit

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the house, your daily activities, and inviting your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the house is brief, and the invitation lacks specific details about dates or logistics. To improve, try to expand on your descriptions with more sensory details or specific plans for the visit to fully develop your ideas and meet the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'then', 'after that', and 'and', but these are somewhat repetitive and mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the structure could be improved by separating the description of the house, the daily routine, and the invitation into distinct, well-defined paragraphs. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'surreal', 'chirping', and 'stunning'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'peaceful surrounding' (should be 'surroundings') and 'friend get together' (should be 'get-together'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and idiomatic expressions that sound natural in a friendly letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For instance, 'every day felt surreal' should be 'has felt surreal', and 'I wish you should also be with us' is awkward phrasing. There are also punctuation issues, such as run-on sentences where multiple clauses are joined only by commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of your writing.
