Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Happy,

Hope you are doing well! Actually, I just want to inform you that recently I moved to a new house near the "Baff lake". It is a two-story house, and there are five bed rooms including separate bathroom, two are one the second floor of the house. Moreover, there is one swimming pool as well as one theatre room. Me and my family are very happy from the location.

I spend my most of the time in my garden, as the view from is excellent. I also do some gardening during my spare time. Furthermore, In the evening, the sunset view is also breathtaking. Last week, I posted one photo from this view and, I got 1 million likes.

Now, I just want you to invite to visit my home. I know you will feel very happy to see this place. I am waiting for your response.

See you soon!

Yours Lovingly

Gurleen

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the house, explaining how you spend your time, and inviting your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant, though the description of the house and your activities could be slightly more detailed to fully develop the response. For example, while you mention the theatre room and pool, expanding on why you enjoy these features would enhance the task achievement. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In the evening' to link your ideas. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the house description and your daily activities could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural and less like a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'breathtaking' and 'spare time'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'happy from the location' should be 'happy with the location', and 'I just want you to invite to visit' is grammatically awkward; a more natural phrasing would be 'I would like to invite you to visit'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, using more precise adjectives or idiomatic expressions would help you reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'there are five bed rooms including separate bathroom' (missing articles), 'two are one the second floor' (preposition error), and 'I spend my most of the time' (incorrect determiner usage). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and correct preposition placement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
