Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Dharmik

I am writing this letter to inform you about the property that I rented which is near to a lake in Srinagar. I rented this house for one month to spend precious time with family and house is fully loaded with amenities like boat with parking inside the house, garden, 5 bed rooms with 3 washrooms and campfire in garden.

Day starts with listening chirping of birds and feeding food to local animals. In afternoon, I went to different island on boat and make food. Moreover, in night my whole family gather in garden to burn woods for BBQ and marshmallows to enjoys beautiful night with dear ones.

I still remember that you always wanted to live at places like this, so I am inviting you to this place and be a part of family trip. Furthermore, paragliding is very popular here so we can visit there and enjoy the moment.

Thank you for your time, I am waiting for your response.

Your faithful,

Dirgh Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points: describing the house, detailing your activities, and extending an invitation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, you could provide more descriptive detail to better 'paint a picture' of the house and your daily routine. For example, instead of just listing amenities, you could describe the view from the balcony or the atmosphere of the lake. The ideas are relevant, but further development would elevate the response to a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing for each main point. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between your description of the house and your daily activities feels more natural. The overall progression of the letter is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'amenities', 'chirping', and 'paragliding'. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'house is fully loaded' (better: 'well-equipped') and 'make food' (better: 'prepare meals'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions would demonstrate a wider, more flexible range of language appropriate for a personal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Day starts with listening chirping' (should be 'The day starts with listening to the chirping'), 'in night' (should be 'at night'), and 'Your faithful' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on articles (a/the) and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
