Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Preet,
I'm writing this letter to let you know about a new house, i bought recently.
You will be very happy after hearing this that i bought a 3 bedroom house near the lake and it's a very peaceful place. My house has one big balcony, large kitchen, a double garage and 2 washrooms.
I wake up every morning with a sunrise view from my room and i enjoy a cup of tea with that. As it's very peaceful in the evening i love sitting in the balcony and read a book, whereas sometimes i go on walk on the beach area.
As i am planning a party next week, so I really want you to be here. I'm sure you will definitely like my house because i know you are also dreaming for a lakeside house. Hope I'll see you next week at the party.
Can't wait to do fun with you.
With love,
kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points: describing the house, explaining how you spend your time, and inviting your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the house is a simple list of features, and the invitation could be more detailed to sound more natural. To improve, try to expand on your descriptions by adding more descriptive adjectives or personal feelings about the space, which would help to fully develop your ideas and make the letter more engaging for the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the description, activities, and the final invitation. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. You rely heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'as'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of linking words and phrases, such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition', to improve the flow between sentences and make the transitions feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'peaceful', 'balcony', and 'lakeside'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'do fun with you', which is not a standard collocation. To improve, focus on using more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions suitable for informal correspondence. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive language will help you convey your experiences more vividly and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as the incorrect use of the lowercase 'i' instead of 'I', and punctuation issues, such as the comma splice in 'As i am planning a party next week, so I really want you to be here'. Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'go on walk'. To improve, focus on consistent capitalization, correct article usage, and refining your sentence structure to avoid redundant conjunctions like 'as' and 'so' in the same sentence.
