Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Rahul,
I am writing this letter yo inform you that i just rented a house by a lake and would like to invite you to spend time during the summer season. It is a very beautiful house. It has 3 bedrooms and from my master bedroom i can see the full view of the river. It has 3 parking space so we donot have to worry about the painting. I play cricket every evening in my backyard because its very big. This most interesting thing i do is swimming on weekends. It also has a theather room where i can wash every type of movie i like. I am really happy here and want you to join me during summer season. We will do lot of fun during this because we have multiple option to spend our time. Good thing is weather here is so much better as compare to your place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the house, explaining how you spend your time, and inviting your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly underdeveloped. For example, while you mention a 'theather room', you could have provided more descriptive detail about the atmosphere or the specific activities you enjoy there to better engage the reader. The invitation is clear, but could be more persuasive by suggesting specific activities you could do together. Overall, the response addresses the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical progression from the introduction to the description of the house, activities, and the invitation. Paragraphing is present, though the body of the letter is somewhat compressed. You use basic cohesive devices like 'It has' and 'I am', but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to connect your ideas more fluidly. The referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the house description and the invitation could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'beautiful', 'master bedroom', and 'backyard'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'yo' instead of 'to', 'theather' instead of 'theater', and 'wash' instead of 'watch'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and idiomatic expressions that are natural in informal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'i' (should be capitalized 'I'), 'donot' (should be 'do not'), and 'as compare to' (should be 'compared to'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles, such as 'a theather room' and 'a full view'. While these errors are frequent, they rarely cause confusion or impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization, and aim to vary your sentence structure further.
