Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Alex,

How are you doing? How's family? I hope all are doing great. I am writing today to tell you that I rented a house and you know what? Its nearby to the lake which gives very peaceful view.

My house is right near the lake and has 4 rooms with 2 washroom and 1 big living area. Currently me and my husband are living in one room which have balcony and perfect view of outside.

I love spending most of my time in balcony as you know that I like to go to beach in summer time but this summer I spend my time in my balcony by having tea and good air from my window.

I would like to invite you to come and spend time with us as we have enough space for you to stay. Moreover, this time its too hot so I know that you will also have fun with us .

See you soon!

Your friend

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the house, explaining how you spend your time, and inviting your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the house has four rooms, you could have provided more descriptive detail about the atmosphere or the specific features of the lake area to make the letter more engaging. The invitation is clear, but adding a specific suggestion for activities you could do together would have strengthened the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Currently' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the jump from describing the house to your daily routine is a bit abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'peaceful view' and 'enough space'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'Its nearby to the lake' (should be 'It is near the lake') and 'good air' (which is not a standard collocation; 'fresh air' would be better). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions that are natural in informal correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as '2 washroom' (should be plural 'washrooms'), 'me and my husband are living' (should be 'my husband and I are living'), and 'its too hot' (should be 'it is'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
