Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the house, explaining how time is spent, and inviting the friend. However, the content is somewhat basic and lacks detail. For instance, while you mention a 'home theater' and 'pool', the descriptions are brief. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, but the task could be more fully developed to reach a higher band. You have addressed the prompt adequately, but the ideas could be expanded with more descriptive language to provide a more vivid picture of the lake house experience.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the flow of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited. There is a lack of linking words or transition phrases to connect sentences smoothly. For example, the transition between describing the house and inviting the friend is abrupt. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods, which makes the text feel disjointed. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to improve the logical flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is functional but quite limited and repetitive. You rely on simple adjectives like 'best' and 'fun'. There are also several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'our doing well' instead of 'you are doing well' and 'stated' instead of 'started'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. You should aim to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and precise verbs to make your writing more engaging and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('i you already know'), missing articles ('its house'), and incorrect verb forms ('i am thing of'). Punctuation is also problematic, with many missing capital letters and run-on sentences. While you attempt some complex ideas, the lack of control over basic sentence structure and grammar significantly impacts the clarity of your writing. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would greatly improve your score.
