Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Friend,

I am deligted to share that i have rented a wodden house near a lake. It has meserising landscapes which are easily visible from all the rooms of the house. House has all the urban nesseceties with fast wifi which is the minimum requierment for everyone these days.

The house is in a beautifull vally which is surounded by mountains same as we used to draw in the childhood. Near to this house there is vegetable farm from where we get all the vegetables and market is also nearby from where we can get all the drinks and chiken to eat so this place is fully facilitated with all the things

I come to know from your pervious letter that you have applied for leavs for a week so i suggets you should visit me and spend some time here in this house as it feels like heaven living here. We will spend some time together and will talk about our future planning as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the house, explaining how you spend your time, and inviting your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the house has 'urban necessities,' providing a specific example or a more vivid description of the interior would have made the letter more engaging. The invitation is clear, but could be more persuasive by suggesting specific activities you could do together. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into three distinct paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. The progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow. You use some basic cohesive devices, such as 'The house is,' 'Near to this house,' and 'I come to know.' However, the use of linking words is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of cohesive devices, such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in addition to this,' to improve the flow between sentences and ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some descriptive language like 'meserising landscapes' and 'fully facilitated.' However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'deligted,' 'wodden,' 'nesseceties,' 'requierment,' 'beautifull,' 'vally,' 'surounded,' 'pervious,' 'leavs,' and 'suggets.' These errors are frequent and detract from the overall quality of the writing. While the meaning is never obscured, improving your spelling accuracy is essential for achieving a higher band score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('House has,' 'market is also nearby'), incorrect verb forms ('I come to know' instead of 'I learned'), and punctuation issues. Additionally, the use of 'i' instead of the capitalized 'I' is a recurring error that should be addressed. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization will help improve your score.
