Student answer (Band 5.5)

Hi Hasan.

I hope your are doing well.I am really excited to tell you about a house that I rented for summer.

The think that I like about the house most is the location. It is located by a beautiful lake ans there is a big garden in front of the house as well.It is 20 minuts drive from the Dhaka city which is very convenient for me.

You know I love reading books and now I sit by the lake every evening and read.Whenever I feel boring, I visit my garden.

I know your summer holiday is going to start soon so I really want you to visite my house . I already planed so many think that we can do togather.

I will wait for tour a

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the house, explaining your activities, and inviting your friend. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which limits the development of your ideas. The description of the house and your activities is quite brief, and the letter ends abruptly without a proper closing. To improve, you should expand on your descriptions—for example, by adding more sensory details about the house or specific plans for your friend's visit—to ensure you meet the length requirement and provide a more fully developed response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into short paragraphs, which is appropriate for this task. However, the flow between ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use basic linking words like 'and' and 'also', but there is a lack of more sophisticated cohesive devices to connect your sentences more fluidly. Additionally, the abrupt ending ('I will wait for tour a') significantly disrupts the coherence of the final section. To improve, focus on using a wider range of transition words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') and ensure your letter has a clear, logical conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. For instance, you use the word 'house' multiple times and 'think' incorrectly instead of 'thing'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'minuts', 'visite', 'planed', and 'togather'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more varied and precise vocabulary to describe your surroundings and feelings, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms. Using synonyms will help make your writing more engaging and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I hope your are doing well' (your/you are), 'The think that I like' (thing), '20 minuts drive from the Dhaka city' (article usage), and 'Whenever I feel boring' (bored). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are frequent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Proofreading for common slips like 'your' vs 'you are' will also help.
