Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to address the task entirely. The prompt asks for a letter to a friend about a rented house by a lake, including descriptions of the house and activities, and an invitation. Instead, the student has written a formal complaint letter to a landlord about water leaks. Because the content is completely off-topic and the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, it does not meet the requirements of the task. The ideas are not developed, and the purpose of the letter is entirely misaligned with the instructions provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The letter is poorly structured. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the logical progression is weak because the content itself is irrelevant to the prompt. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, such as the abrupt transition in 'If you can please change it immediately, If not possible we planned to change our apartment'. The lack of a clear introduction or logical flow between the complaint and the request for a visit makes the text difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'relace' (likely meant 'replace'), 'washing area and wash room leakage items', and 'making very unsatisfaction'. The student struggles to express basic ideas clearly, and the range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey complex meaning. The tone is also inconsistent, shifting between a formal complaint and a confused request.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammar is a significant area of concern. There are frequent errors in sentence structure, such as 'Very difficult manage the water supply' (missing subject and verb) and 'We can not managed the uncertain part our self'. Punctuation is also problematic, with incorrect comma usage and sentence fragments. The student relies on simple, often broken, sentence structures, and there is no evidence of complex sentence control. These errors frequently impede the reader's understanding of the intended message.
