Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Bethany,
Its been such a long time, since I have heard from you.I would like to tell you that, I have rented a house by a lake to spend the summer time this year.
Well, the house is well furnished and has wooden theme. All the furniture, is madeup of wood and it has a nice fire place in it. Even the lake view, is so decent from the balcony and the front yard. Especially, at night the greenery looks so elegant that I would want to spend my whole life here.
I have been thinking to hunt their and have some great fresh fish from the lake. I'll also make some desert to enjoy with wine. Surprisingly, this house comes with the a wine cellar as well. It's so amazing to have a quite time in solititude.
I don't want to spend my whole summer alone in this house, that is why I would like you to accompany me. This hous is located nearby Tree Hill, North Carolina. When you confirm me that you are coming I will definitley make some special arrangements for you.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Fariha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the house, explained how you are spending your time, and extended a clear invitation to your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a personal and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to give the reader a clear picture of your summer situation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all descriptions are fully accurate; for example, 'hunting' in a lake is likely a misuse of the word, as one would typically 'fish' or 'go fishing' rather than hunt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your narrative easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Well,' 'Especially,' and 'that is why' to link your sentences and ideas. However, the transition between some sentences feels slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this house') is always clear. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of your message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using descriptive terms like 'well-furnished,' 'elegant,' and 'solitude.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'wooden theme' (should be 'wooden decor' or 'rustic theme') and 'hunt' (which usually refers to animals on land). Additionally, there are a few spelling errors like 'madeup' (made up), 'desert' (dessert), and 'definitley' (definitely). While these errors do not impede communication, addressing them would help you achieve a higher score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would further enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'Its been' (It's been), 'the a wine cellar' (the wine cellar), and 'this hous' (this house). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement after introductory phrases and before conjunctions. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on proofreading for small mechanical errors and ensure consistent subject-verb agreement and correct article usage.
