Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Shrishti,

I hope you are doing well! How's your new job going? I heard from Vinayak that you joined a clothing brand as head of Human Resources.

I am writing to invite you to my new house by the Fatehsagar lake in your hometown, Udaipur.

So, here's the thing, one of my clients is organising the summer fest in Udaipur and I have to manage all the events for him. Hence, I have rented a two bedroom house by the lake for next two months. Additionally, it has a mesmerizing view of the lake, especially at night, when I can see the reflection of stars in it. Moreover, it is fully furnished with all the appliances which is making my stay pleasant. Furthermore, I am mostly working at the fest during the day and watch a couple of episodes of game of thrones at night before I go to bed.

Anyway, I have a couple of days off next weekend. I was wondering you could come here and we can hang out. Maybe, we could take a small ferry into the lake. Let me know what you think!

Well, that's all for now. Can't wait to hear from you and looking forward to seeing you.

Best wishes,

Sachin

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the house, explained how you are spending your time, and provided a clear invitation to your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, being informal and friendly. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the description of the house and your daily routine. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the house rental and the invitation is slightly more seamless, but overall, the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your sentences. While the use of these devices is effective, it is slightly mechanical at times. The paragraphing is appropriate, separating the introduction, the body of the letter, and the conclusion. The referencing is clear throughout, and the flow of the letter is natural, making it easy for the reader to follow your narrative.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using descriptive phrases like 'mesmerizing view' and 'fully furnished'. The language is natural and fits the context of a personal letter well. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation that impede communication. To improve further, you could incorporate more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions to add variety, but the current range is sufficient to convey your message clearly and effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is generally good. There is a minor grammatical slip in the sentence 'I was wondering you could come here', which should be 'I was wondering if you could come here'. However, these are rare and do not impede the overall clarity of your writing. You show a good command of verb tenses and sentence construction.
