Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Friend,
I hope you are in the best of your health. I am doing good too. I am writing to inform you about a very exciting news that will make you the happiest. I have rented a house "Lakeview Cottage" by the Lake Aqua for the summer.
The house is a well maintained, spacious one with two bedrooms in the ground floor, two bathrooms, kitchen and a cozy dining area. Both bedrooms overlook the Lake Aqua with a mesmerizing view, and also the garden which has got lovely . The first floor has a huge hall with playing area for the kids and two more bedrooms. The hall has a lounge area in the corner beside the window with the lake view.
I am planning to shift there by the 2nd of June along with family and I want you also to join in, along with your family. We will have a wonderful summer away from all the hustle and bustle of the city.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the house, explaining how you spend your time, and inviting your friend. However, the development of the second bullet point is weak. You mention planning to shift there, but you do not describe how you are actually spending your time, which is a requirement of the prompt. The description of the house is detailed and clear, but the lack of focus on the activities makes the response feel slightly incomplete. To improve, ensure that every part of the prompt is given equal attention and developed with specific details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The house is', 'The first floor has', and 'I am planning to', which create a smooth flow. However, the transition between the description of the house and the invitation could be more sophisticated. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of the letter is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'hustle and bustle', 'mesmerizing view', and 'well maintained' are used appropriately and add descriptive quality to your writing. There is a minor error in the sentence 'which has got lovely .' where a noun is missing. While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise or varied collocations would elevate your score. You have enough flexibility to communicate effectively, but the range is not yet wide enough for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing to inform you about a very exciting news that will make you the happiest.' There are some minor grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'in the ground floor' (should be 'on the ground floor') and 'a very exciting news' (news is uncountable). Despite these slips, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring consistent accuracy with prepositions and articles, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures.
