Student answer (Band 6.5)

Hi.

Dear Yashdeep,

I hope this email finds you well. It feels like ages since we last caught up! How have things been with you and your family?

I am writing this to tell you about my new rented house this month. I surely know you will be thrilled after knowing that its a lake house, as I know you are a nature lover.

Firstly, it's a single-story, small, and beautiful house. There is a big window in my room, from which I can look outside. All the walls are painted colorfully. I was mesmerized to see the antique furniture in the house. So it is a cozy and sweet home.

Secondly, I don't realize how easily i pass my time, most of the times, i sit in the balcony and feel the sound of birds and water,it's gives great music to my ear. I feel very close to nature

I just want to invite you at my home, and I am eagrly waiting for you, when we can enjoy together in the beautiful ambience of this house?

So it is always a pleasure reconnecting with you."We'll catch up soon! Take care of yourself, and please give my best to your family."

your friend

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You successfully covered all three bullet points required in the prompt. You described the house well, mentioning features like the single-story layout, big window, and antique furniture. You also described how you spend your time by sitting on the balcony and enjoying the sounds of nature, and you included a clear invitation for your friend to visit. The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational for a general training letter, although the opening contains a slight contradiction by starting with 'Hi.' and immediately following with 'Dear Yashdeep,'. Overall, your ideas are well-extended and clearly relevant to the context, satisfying the requirements for a Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your letter has a clear overall progression, with paragraphs dedicated to separate topics such as describing the house, how you spend your time, and the invitation. You used appropriate transition markers like 'Firstly,' and 'Secondly,' to organise your points. However, there are some minor mechanical issues with cohesion and punctuation, such as missing capitalisation at the start of 'i pass', a comma splice in 'water,it's gives', and an abrupt shift near the end where you quote a closing phrase before writing your actual sign-off. Despite these flaws, paragraphing is used sufficiently and the letter flows logically, which places it firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'mesmerized', 'antique furniture', and 'ambience'. While there are a few awkward collocations or word choices, such as 'feel the sound of birds' instead of 'hear the sounds of birds', and 'eagrly waiting', these errors do not impede communication. Your spelling is generally good aside from the typo in 'eagrly'. You successfully convey your message with a natural, friendly tone, reflecting the expectations of Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the letter, such as 'There is a big window in my room, from which I can look outside.' You showed good control over some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including 'its a lake house' (missing apostrophe), 'colorfully' instead of 'in bright colors', 'i pass' (lowercase pronoun), and run-on structures like 'it's gives great music'. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede communication, aligning well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
