Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Krish,
I hope you are doing weil. I recently rented a beautiful 3 bedbroom house right beside the lake Ontario. I am writing to invite you to visit my place for your upcoming summer vacation.
Firstly, I visited this place a year ago along with my office team-mates for camping. Although we stayed here for a week, I really love the environment here. In addition to that, people are so nice here and the lake view from our balcony was awesome. So i decided to move here and live peacefully.
Furthermore, I recently got couple of new friends here they are really nice to hang out. I know we both like capturing the wildlife birds pictures. We all 3 together enjoy our nights with campfire and barbecue with a really nice view of pond.
I am planning to plan a picnic this year with our 10th classmates. I know you definitely enjoy this place. Although you prefer city environment, there are plenty of places you will like in Cape Breton Island.
I can't wait to your from you soon.
Regards,
Bala

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points of the task well. You successfully describe the house ("a beautiful 3 bedbroom house right beside the lake Ontario"), explain how you are spending your time ("enjoy our nights with campfire and barbecue"), and invite your friend ("invite you to visit my place for your upcoming summer vacation"). The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout the letter. Although there is a slight confusion regarding geographical details by mentioning both Lake Ontario and Cape Breton Island, this does not detract from the overall purpose and clarity of the communication. All parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, fulfilling the requirements for this band level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression and is organized into logical paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of your summer experience. You make use of appropriate opening and closing conventions for an informal letter. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes basic or slightly repetitive, with transitional markers like "Firstly," "In addition to that," and "Furthermore" feeling a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional abrupt transitions between sentences slightly disrupt the flow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, contributing to an overall coherent structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using functional phrases like "upcoming summer vacation" and "capturing the wildlife birds pictures." There are, however, several lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as spelling "bedbroom" instead of "bedroom," writing "weil" instead of "well," and saying "got couple of new friends" instead of "made a couple of new friends." You also write "wildlife birds pictures," which is unnatural phrasing. While these errors are noticeable and show limited precision with collocations, they do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the concessive clause "Although we stayed here for a week, I really love the environment here." There are several grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the letter, including missing articles ("lake Ontario" instead of "Lake Ontario"), incorrect capitalization ("So i decided"), and minor prepositional or structural awkwardness ("I can't wait to your from you soon" instead of "hear from you soon"). While these errors occur with some frequency, the majority of your simple sentences are accurate and meaning remains clear.
