Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Suman,
I hope you and your family are doing great. I'm writing to invite you to visit me at my new rented house by the laskeshore.
As I want to spend my this summer holidays nearby a lake, so I decided to rent a house there. This is a four bedroom house with attached bathrooms. It has also a very large kitchen and a living room. All rooms have spacious windows from where the view of lake is quite pleasant.
I belive that it would be a terrific experience as my whole family members are also going there with me. In this way, I can spend a quality time with my loved ones. Additionally, this lake has a gorgeous shoreline, and we can do a number of activites there such as swimming, boating, and paddling.
Therefore, I also want to invite you to come and visit our this house for this summer. It would be a great fun and I think, we can make our holidays memorable. It has been a long time since we met last time, so we will get a chance to spend some time together.
I hope to see you soon. I will be egarly waiting for you at that house.
Best regards,
Harpreet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, you successfully describe the house by mentioning that it has four bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a very large kitchen, a living room, and spacious windows with a pleasant view. Second, you describe how you are spending your time there by noting that you are enjoying the gorgeous shoreline with your family and participating in activities like swimming, boating, and paddling. Finally, you clearly invite your friend Suman to visit you and your family for the summer. The tone of the letter is appropriately friendly and polite, and the purpose of communication is fully achieved throughout the text. All requirements of the task have been addressed effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, following standard informal letter conventions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas, such as the description of the house, your activities, and the invitation. Cohesive devices are generally used well, for instance with transition words like 'Additionally' and 'Therefore'. However, a few transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical, such as 'In this way' and 'so', which prevents the cohesion from being entirely natural or sophisticated. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate and functional range of vocabulary for this general task. You use appropriate terms related to housing and holiday activities, such as 'rented house', 'shoreline', 'swimming', 'boating', and 'paddling'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'laskeshore' instead of 'lakeshore', 'whole family members' instead of 'all family members', and 'activites' instead of 'activities'. You also rely on basic vocabulary in several places. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands where greater precision and spelling accuracy are required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('from where the view of lake is quite pleasant') and conditional or temporal clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include 'spend my this summer holidays' (unnecessary determiner), 'nearby a lake, so I decided' (redundant conjunction usage), 'It has also a very large kitchen' (awkward phrasing for existence), and 'last time' (redundant with 'It has been a long time since we met'). Although these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to understand your message without difficulty.
