Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jamsheed,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to let you know that i have rented out a lake house for this summer. Its located about 2 hr hour drive from your town.
The house is more beautiful than i expected it to be. Has a private graden, a jetty for the boats, private parking , and has a shopping market within 10 km radius. The property owners has lend out their paddle boats free of cost as a token of appreciation for booking.
I have been spending a good amount of time swimming in the lake. There's a beautiful garden in front of the house. There's also a free high speed wifi connection provided, It helps me to check up on my work from here. The evening sunset is really breath taking with the view. There's also a fireplace inside the house.
I also spend some time staring into the fire place, looking at the burning wood.
But the most i enjoy are the paddling and swinging by the garden. It reminds me of our childhood when we used play on the swing in your house or ride bicycles. Also theres a park near by, i heard they rented out bicycles in the early morning.
I would like to invite you to spend some time with me in lake house. I hope we could catch up on the things that happened after our last meeting. We could go cycling, swimming, make barbeque ect.
I would really appreciate and love if you decide to join me. If you are down i will sent you the adress. I hope you would reply me fast as i am waiting for your answer.
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all three bullet points required in the prompt. The house is described with details such as a private garden, jetty, and proximity to a shopping market. Time spent there is clearly outlined through swimming, working remotely via Wi-Fi, and enjoying the evenings by the fireplace. Furthermore, a warm and enthusiastic invitation is extended to the friend to visit and catch up. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout the letter, fitting the General Training task type well. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a clear and logical organisation, moving smoothly from the greeting and purpose of the letter to the description of the house, daily activities, childhood memories, and finally the invitation. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different themes, such as the features of the property versus daily routines. Cohesive devices are generally well handled, although there are minor issues with referencing and transition words, such as starting a sentence with 'Has a private garden' without a subject, and minor punctuation slips. Overall, the flow is coherent and progression is clear throughout the text, allowing the reader to follow the narrative with ease.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate lexical range suitable for a general informal letter. Words and phrases like 'token of appreciation', 'high speed wifi connection', and 'breath taking' attempt to add descriptive detail. However, there are some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'rented out a lake house' instead of 'rented a lake house', 'property owners has lend out' containing grammatical and lexical inaccuracies ('lent out'), and 'staring into the fire place'. Spelling and capitalization errors also appear, such as lowercase 'i', 'graden' instead of 'garden', and 'barbeque ect.' These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in the text, such as missing subject pronouns ('Has a private garden'), subject-verb agreement issues ('The property owners has'), incorrect verb forms ('when we used play'), and punctuation and capitalization slips ('i have', '2 hr hour'). Although these errors do not obscure the overall meaning of the letter, they occur often enough to show limited control over complex structures, placing this response firmly in the band 6 range.
