Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to cover the required points of the task, such as describing a house, mentioning spending time with family, and inviting a friend. However, there is a fundamental misunderstanding of the prompt's scenario. The prompt states, 'You have rented a house by a lake for the summer. Write a letter to a friend... describe the house... describe how you are spending your time there.' Instead of describing a house already rented, the student writes as if they are asking Jayraj to help them find a rented house. Consequently, the description of the house and time spent are framed as future requests or vague intentions rather than actual descriptions of a current situation. This represents a significant misinterpretation of the task requirements, restricting the development of ideas. As a result, Task Achievement is impacted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is organised into short paragraphs representing different thoughts, but the overall logical progression is weak. The transition between ideas is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and basic. Phrases like 'I WANT TO INFORM YOU SOMETHING' and 'I DISCRIBE HOW I WILL GET HOUSE' act as crude signposts rather than natural cohesive links. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks coherence, particularly with sentences floating at the end like 'WELL DESIDE ALL LOCATION AFTER YOUR DISITION OK BYE.' Referencing and pronoun use are frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the narrative flow smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying on everyday words with frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'VECATION' instead of vacation, 'SEPRATE KITCHIN' instead of separate kitchen, 'REQWIREMENTS' instead of requirements, and 'FAMALY' instead of family. The student attempts to use some less common phrases like 'QUALITY TIME', but overall, the lexical range is narrow and insufficient. Spelling errors such as 'DISCRIBE', 'THINGS' (for think/things), and 'DESIDE' appear throughout the text, and awkward collocations like 'CONFIRM YOUR THINKS' further limit the effectiveness of the communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are heavily flawed. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, such as 'I WANT TO INFORM YOU SOMETHING' instead of 'I want to tell you about', and 'WE R NOT GOING ANY WERE' instead of 'we are not going anywhere'. Punctuation and capitalisation are also problematic, with large portions of the text written in all-caps, irregular spacing around punctuation marks, and missing apostrophes in contractions and possessives like 'YOUR'S FAITH FULLY'. These frequent grammatical and mechanical errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader.
