Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The writer successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task. The house is described in terms of its location and rooms ('a wooden house with three bedroom; 1 kitchen; 1 livingh room; 1 big hall and a fire place'), how time is spent is clearly explained ('in evening i am enjoying my sun set at lake'), and an invitation is extended to the friend ('as a friend i am inviting you too to spend your holidays over here'). The tone is appropriately informal for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. While the prompt requirements are fully met, the depth of elaboration is basic, aligning comfortably with a Band 6.0 descriptor profile.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter exhibits a basic logical organisation with a clear purpose, starting with personal greetings, moving through the requested descriptions and invitation, and closing politely. However, Coherence and Cohesion are significantly hindered by a complete lack of punctuation and sentence boundary demarcation. The entire response is essentially a single run-on sentence joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' and 'so', without proper capitalisation or full stops. Although cohesive devices such as 'and', 'so', and 'there' are present, the absence of paragraphing and punctuation makes the text difficult to parse. Referencing is sometimes unclear due to the string of clauses. This overall structural deficiency places the response at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts and descriptions related to a holiday home, such as 'lakeside', 'peaceful', 'traffic', 'pollution', and 'fireplace'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'sun set at lake' and 'the view of sunset from the lake side is very awfull' (where 'awful' is likely misused to mean awe-inspiring or wonderful). Spelling errors also occur, such as 'writting', 'moring', and 'chirpling'. The range is sufficient to convey the basic message, but the frequent errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatically, the student relies heavily on simple sentences linked continuously by conjunctions. There are very few complex structures attempted, and control over basic sentence construction is weak. The most critical weakness in this category is the complete absence of punctuation and capitalisation throughout the entire body of the letter, leading to severe run-on sentence errors. Additionally, there are tense and agreement slips, such as 'i am writting', 'i woke by the sound', and 'you mind get divert'. Because errors are frequent, punctuation is entirely missing, and sentence boundaries are blurred, the grammatical control corresponds to a Band 4.0.
