Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Divya,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this email to inform you about my new rented house.
Last month, i moved this beautiful and newly renovated property for this summer. You know what is the most interesting part! It is located by a lake. Moreover, the view from my balcony is mind-blowing. It has three bedroom, kitchen and main hall. Apart from this, my favorite part of this place is bar and social room. These both are located in the basement.
However, in this luxurious house made me very happy and confidently towards my ambitious. Mostly, i spend my leisure time in social room to read some books and watch movies as well. End of the day, i just seat in the balcony and enjoy the view of lake. The most obvious is that i can hear the sounds of water from my balcony, i am so gland to hear it. I really like to see the sunset at the lake side and enjoy the beauty of nature. Guess, what happened last week to me! I was just scrolling my photo galley and saw our old memories. It was really golden days. I really miss you. I am here by this summer so please come and explore new place. we will enjoyed a lot. Let me know, when you are free to come and see me.
I am really excited to see you. Take care.
With love,
Nikita

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the task instructions. The house is described in detail, mentioning its location by a lake, balcony views, and specific rooms including a basement bar and social room. The candidate also explains how time is spent there, such as reading, watching movies, and enjoying sunsets. Finally, there is a clear and welcoming invitation for the friend to visit ('please come and explore new place. we will enjoyed a lot'). The tone is appropriately informal and friendly for a letter to a peer. All parts of the prompt are covered adequately, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0. However, minor development limitations in some secondary points keep it comfortably at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing that separates the introduction, the description of the house, the daily routines and memories, and the final invitation. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Apart from this', 'However', and 'Moreover', although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or are grammatically awkward (e.g., 'End of the day'). Referencing is generally clear, but there are a few places where the flow is disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic, such as jumping from the description of the house to the reflection on old memories. Overall, the organizational structure is easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 rating.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common and descriptive lexical items such as 'newly renovated', 'mind-blowing', 'luxurious', and 'leisure time'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'i moved this beautiful' (missing preposition), 'confidently towards my ambitious' (incorrect word form), and 'gland to hear it' (spelling/word error for 'glad'). Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without causing major misinterpretation, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptor well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'You know what is the most interesting part!' and 'I really like to see the sunset at the lake side and enjoy the beauty of nature.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tenses, capitalization of the pronoun 'i', missing prepositions ('moved this beautiful property'), and awkward phrasing like 'in this luxurious house made me very happy'. Punctuation is also inconsistent at times. While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally re-read, they rarely impede overall communication, aligning with the criteria for Band 5.5.
