Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Amit, I hope you are enjoying your day I just want to tell you that i had rented a house in Oakville near lake Ontario. Its a four bed and 4 bath home and icing on the cake is that it has a huge driveway and ample space of parking. in the house there is a open concept kitchen and there is a huge chandelier which enhance the beauty of the house. Well I spend the most of my time in summer in the backyard because there is a barbecue grill available on which I cook for me and my girlfriend and there is a swimming pool in the back of the house in which we spent leisure time with the family members.
I am very excited to invite you in my house on my birthday we gonna celebrate there and in this way you can get house tour of my rented property.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three key bullet points required by the prompt, as you clearly describe the rented house in Oakville near lake Ontario, explain how you spend your time relaxing in the backyard and swimming pool, and warmly invite your friend to your birthday celebration. The purpose of the letter is clear and appropriate for a general writing task. However, some areas remain slightly underdeveloped; for instance, the description of how you spend your time could be expanded with more vivid details about your daily routine or surroundings. To move towards a higher level, you could fully extend all your ideas with richer descriptions and ensure that every point is elaborated with equal depth throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a generally coherent overall arrangement, allowing the reader to follow your narrative from the house description to your daily activities and finally the invitation. You make use of basic cohesive devices such as 'and', 'well', and 'in this way' to connect your thoughts. Nevertheless, the organization of paragraphs is faulty, as the entire body of the letter is lumped together into a single dense block instead of being separated into distinct paragraphs for each topic. Referencing and paragraphing require better management to guide the reader effortlessly. To improve further, you should divide your ideas into logical paragraphs for the introduction, the house description, your activities, and the invitation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'open concept kitchen', 'huge chandelier', and 'leisure time'. However, there are some word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as writing 'ample space of parking' instead of 'ample parking space', and 'get house tour' missing the necessary article 'a'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present, but they do not impede communication. To reach a higher standard, you should incorporate more precise, less common lexical items with a stronger awareness of natural collocations and ensure greater accuracy in your phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You employ a mix of simple and complex sentence forms to convey your ideas, such as using relative clauses in describing the pool and the barbecue grill. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and after punctuation marks, tense inconsistencies like 'i had rented' instead of 'I have rented', and missing articles such as 'near lake Ontario'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To achieve a higher band, you need to produce more frequent error-free sentences, exercise better control over punctuation and articles, and maintain consistent verb tenses throughout.
