Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Harshil,
I hope you are doing well. It has been a while since we met. I wanted to let you know that I have leased a bunglow which is by the lake on east coast for this summer. To begin with, it is a four bedroom and two bath house with semi detached balconies. Moreover, there is a huge patio in the backyard with a barbecue grill and bar table.
Currently my wfie and I are staying here. It is very pleasent to spend time here. In the morining i usually go for a walk in the trail that leads to the lake while my wife does yoga in front yard. Later in the day we enjoy each other's company by making dinner together and followed by watching movies.
I want you to take some time off from your work and join us here. It will be fabulous experience for you. There is a decent restaurant near the house we can go there. Also, i have two jet skies that we can use in the lake to have fun. So, please come and stay with us.
Yours sincerely,
Rudresh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, fulfilling the requirements for a general training letter. You clearly describe the rented lakeside house by mentioning details like the four bedrooms, balconies, and the backyard patio. You also provide a vivid picture of how you and your wife spend your time there, such as going for walks on the trail and making dinner together, and you clearly extend an invitation to your friend Harshil with specific activities like visiting a restaurant and riding jet skis. All bullet points are well-addressed, demonstrating a clear tone appropriate for writing to a friend, showing the solid development expected at this level while touching upon the richer elaboration characteristic of higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter shows a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The structure moves naturally from an opening greeting and house description to daily activities, followed by an invitation and a friendly closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate these distinct ideas. You use cohesive devices and referencing well, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Also', which help guide the reader smoothly through the letter. To reach higher bands, cohesion could be made slightly more seamless and less reliant on standard transitional markers, avoiding occasional minor mechanical links and ensuring an even more natural flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and make successful attempts at less common items, such as 'semi detached balconies', 'barbecue grill', and 'jet skies'. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors that slightly detract from precision, such as spelling 'bunglow' instead of bungalow, 'pleasent' instead of pleasant, and 'morining' instead of morning, alongside a minor capitalisation slip on 'wfie'. These lexical inaccuracies prevent the vocabulary from achieving higher precision, though they do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses smoothly in sentences like 'I wanted to let you know that I have leased a bunglow...' and 'It is very pleasent to spend time here.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('in front yard' instead of 'in the front yard', 'fabulous experience' needing an article), missing commas after introductory phrases ('Later in the day'), and minor punctuation or capitalization issues like 'i usually go'. These errors persist but they rarely impede communication, reflecting a solid command of basic structures while occasionally struggling with precise grammatical patterns.
